Introduction

You’ve been given the responsibility to organise your own end-of-year trip to London. So the more you prepare your stay the more you will enjoy it. There are some details you must bear in mind:

1-    You have a maximum budget of €900 per student, but…unfortunately, you have to pay your accommodation, sight seeing, food and transport.

2-    Your trip will last 5 days.

3-    Luckily enough, your parents have already paid your return ticket.

4-    The trip will take place in the second half of February.

Remember you have 36 sessions to complete your task!!!!

The Task

Working in pairs,  try to gather information and put it together to elaborate a travel brochure where these aspects should be included:

i.                    An index where you specify expenses on accommodation and transport (bus, taxi, train, tube), including possible discounts you may come across.

ii.                  A brief description of the most relevant features (historical, geographical…) of six sights. Each student has to write a composition of 20 words at least about three of these sights. You must include some pictures to illustrate your texts.

iii.                The brochures will be submitted in booklets of numbered A-4 size cards. On the top of each card, you have to write the date of each day of your visit and include a timetabled description of what you are doing on each particular day, introducing breaks for meals and free time.

iv.                 At the end of the brochure, include a list of the sources you’ve used in your task.

The Process

1.     First you'll be assigned to a team of 2 students

2.     Look for a map of the city centre and print it from: www.bastrimbos.com/WebQuest/WebQuestLondon/index.htm

3.     Taking into account your budget, choose your accommodation. Click on: accommodation in London, travel information, visiting London

4.     Once you have selected your accommodation and specified the price in your brochure index, locate it on the map and include it in your task.

5.     Search information about the sights you are interested in visiting and calculate the money you will need for tickets .

Evaluation

Your will be assigned a single mark for each pair of students. Work will be assessed taking into account the following features:

1.     Originality of the task: 10%

2.     Attractive and bright format: 10%

3.     Effort and dedication in class: 20%

4.     Correct use of English:

a.      proper and suitable syntax: 40 %

b.     sentence elaboration: 20%

Conclusion

Once you have accomplished your task, answer these questions in pairs:

1.     Do you think the task was interesting and/or useful?

2.     Did you find it difficult? Why?

3.      Do you think your English skills have improved?

3.
