that strategic reading is not only a matter of knowing what
strategy to use,
but also the reader must know how to use a strategy sucessfully and
orchestrate
its use with other strategies. (Anderson, 1991:468)

First, be aware of your own way of reading.
Observe what you do when reading in your first language and try to do the same
when reading in a L2
Use different strategies at the same time, depending on the activity that you
want to carry out.
Skim the text for the main idea. That is, read the text quickly to get
the gist.

Your aim is to find the answer to a general question as quickly as possible. -
Don't worry about words that you don't know. -
You are not concerned about details or conclusions.
Scan the text for more specific answers. Read the text quickly, but look
for a more specific answer. Therefore:
- You should read the question
first. - Try to locate
the information you need to answer the question. -
Don't try to understand the whole article.
